New Market Research: For 2012, Medical Homes Will Beat ACOs, Bundled Payments for Cost, Quality Potential
![]() December 21, 2011 SEA GIRT, NJ, USA — The patient-centered medical home is the healthcare delivery model most likely to curb cost trend and enhance care quality in the year ahead, say respondents to the eighth annual Healthcare Trends and Forecasts survey by the Healthcare Intelligence Network. Thirty percent of respondents to the October 2011 survey indicated their confidence in the medical home model, over the CMS Comprehensive Primary Care initiative (21 percent), the accountable care organization (ACO), chosen by 19 percent, and bundled payments (17.5 percent). The majority of the 126 respondents to the survey said 2011 was a better year business-wise than the previous 12 months. More results from the survey are available in Healthcare Trends for 2012: Eighth Annual Benchmarks, a complimentary downloadable HIN white paper. QUOTE ATTRIBUTABLE TO MELANIE MATTHEWS, HIN EXECUTIVE VP AND COO:
"Our market research in 2011 confirmed a nearly universal adoption of the medical home model. 2011 was also the year that ACOs hit their stride, and the industry honed in on bundled payments, clinical integration and other practices to curb costs and improve quality. This executive summary of 2012 trends is an ideal starting point for planning for the year ahead in healthcare."
