15 Percent of Healthcare Organizations Impose Penalties for Non-Completion of HRAs, Survey Finds

2010 Performance Benchmarks in Health Risk Assessment Use
New market research from the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN) has found that 15 percent of healthcare companies penalize individuals who do not complete health risk assessments (HRAs).

October 6, 2010

SEA GIRT, NJ, USA — Fifteen percent of healthcare companies penalize individuals who do not complete health risk assessments (HRAs), according to new market research from the Healthcare Intelligence Network. Penalties for non-completion of HRAs can range from exclusion from an organization’s health or wellness program to ineligibility for discounted health insurance premiums, say these respondents to HIN's June 2010 Industry Survey on the use of HRAs.

The survey also found that two-thirds of responding healthcare companies use HRAs in their case management, population health management and utilization management programs. These findings and others are explored in 2010 Performance Benchmarks in Health Risk Assessment Use, HIN's just-released analysis of HRA use, from HRA format and target audiences to incentive use, impact and ROI.

"Health risk assessment and stratification is increasingly employed by healthcare organizations not only for disease management but also by case managers to reduce avoidable healthcare utilization by high-risk populations. This benchmarks report captures trends in current and planned HRA programs and documents the clinical and financial gains that respondents have experienced from these programs."
