Dear Healthcare Intelligence Network Client,

HIN Managing Editor Patricia Donovan

Even as the final HHS regulations were issued this week on the "meaningful use" of EHRs for healthcare providers to qualify for Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive bonus payments, a new study has found that more than half of specialists and 50 percent of PCPs are already keeping their patient records in electronic format. In this week's issue, learn the key changes in the final CMS rule under the HITECH Act of 2009.

The HITECH Act also imposes more stringent regulatory and security requirements to the privacy rules of HIPAA. Download the complimentary white paper, "Role Based Access Governance and HIPAA Compliance: A Pragmatic Approach," for a set of best practices for implementing an access governance framework and the specific access controls requirements for HIPAA/HITECH.
