Meet Your Speakers

Kerry Little, M.A., is a senior health coach at Duke Center for Integrative Medicine (DCIM) at Duke University Health System. Little has over 10 years of experience teaching and working with groups and individuals with a focus on improving their well-being. From corporate presentations to one-on-one sessions, Little has helped clients lose weight, stop smoking, reduce stress, become physically active and improve their health and quality of life.

As the senior coach at DCIM, she is involved in cutting-edge healthcare and research. She also enjoys coaching clients to achieve the better life they seek and deserve. Prior to working at Duke, as an account manager with Johnson and Johnson’s Health Care Systems, Little designed and led a three-month weight loss program where Duke employees lost over 4,000 pounds.

Little also worked as a health educator and manager at a top hospital-based wellness center where she designed and taught a variety of health programs for corporate clients and members of the community.

Little received her BA in health education from Elon University, and her master’s degree from NC State University with a focus on health behavior and her coaching certificate from Totally Coached.

Bonnie Sechrist, R.N., B.S.N., director, clinical programs, is responsible for the overall development and management of the clinical components and their effectiveness of the health management programs at Health Management Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wellpoint, Inc. Sechrist leads the development of disease management programs focused on diabetes, cardiovascular disease and respiratory illness, depression vascular risk and a number of other chronic conditions.

Sechrist has a diverse background in healthcare, ranging from Research Coordinator for NIH funded clinical trials to directing Cardiovascular Services in both the academic and community hospital settings. Sechrist has over five years of clinical research experience, over 20 years of patient management experience, and over 15 years of senior management experience. Her diverse background includes an extensive history in research protocol design, program design & development, project management, quality and operations management and sales support. Sechrist clinical experience includes emergency nursing, critical care nursing, general/cardiac surgery, general/interventional cardiology and disease management.

Sechrist has worked extensively with health plans and employer groups to develop effective solutions for patients with chronic illnesses. She has also collaborated with various senior healthcare professionals to create and establish integration processes and interfaces between disease management programs and various medical management initiatives.

Sechrist graduated with honors from James Madison University with a bachelor of science degree in biology and with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Hospitals with a bachelor of science degree in Nursing. She participated on the editorial board of Cath Lab Digest, and has been a member of the advisory board to several medical device-manufacturing companies and is a frequent speaker and presenter at disease management seminars, workshops and forums.

Maddy M. Rice, BSN, MA, ACRN, is the area vice president for training and development at CorSolutions, a customer-centric, health intelligence and solutions company. In this function she oversees all functions of the education department, which provides comprehensive new employee orientation and continued professional development training for over 500 clinical, corporate, and sales employees.

Rice is a master trainer with over 15 years experience designing, developing and facilitating training curricula programs for pharmaceutical, medical, and educational institutions.

Prior to coming to CorSolutions, Rice worked for GlaxoSmithKline in their HIV division in both a research and training capacity. She was able to demonstrate in two clinical studies how a 12 module education program, which she developed, coupled with progressive reinforcement by a healthcare provider improved HIV medication adherence over 12 months. Rice received the Bob Pike Creative Trainer of the Year award for the Train-the-Trainer instructor’s guide for this HIV Education program. During this tenure, Rice became an AIDS certified nurse, certified as Highlands Program affiliate, and completed five years of graduate work in adult learning and health behavior change.

Rice received her BSN from Georgetown University in 1978. Her clinical experience began at the National Institutes of Health where she served in various patient care and clinical research positions. During her eight year tenure at NIH, she was commissioned as an officer in the Public Health Service and received the NIH Nurse of the Year award, as well as the Maryland Hospital Nurse of the Year award.
