What's the ROI from Telehealth Programs? This Week's Challenge: Telehealth's broad reach encompasses telemedicine — the use of telecommunications technology to deliver clinical diagnosis, services and patient consultations — as well as the exploding field of mobile health. We wanted to see what ROI was generated by telehealth programs.

What We Learned: HIN's third annual industry survey on telehealth and telemedicine captured data on targeted populations and conditions for telehealth programs, health activities being monitored remotely, the greatest barrier or challenge to telehealth implementation, and much more. According to the 129 healthcare companies who responded, the following ROI was generated by their telehealth program:

  • Too soon to tell: 55.8 percent

  • Between 2:1 and 3:1: 25.6 percent

  • Between 3:1 and 4:1: 11.6 percent

  • Higher than 4:1: 4.7 percent

  • Less than 2:1: 2.3 percent
