This Week's Challenge: In the new landscape of accountable and value-based healthcare, patient registries are a straightforward tool for creating realistic views of clinical practices, provider performance, safety and comparative effectiveness, and for supporting evidence-based medicine development and decision-making. We wanted to see which functionalities are most often included in patient registries.

What We Learned: HIN's e-survey on registry use for quality improvement, administered in August 2011, captured how 105 healthcare organizations are using patient registries currently and in the future, and the impact registries have on healthcare quality, efficiency and cost.
