Incentive Milestones in Health Coaching This Week's Challenge: Health and wellness coaching services allow payors, employers and even healthcare providers the chance to engage individuals in self-management of chronic illness, reducing healthcare spend and improving health outcomes and productivity in the process. We wanted to see for which actions incentives are offered in health coaching programs.

What We Learned: For HIN's third annual e-survey on Health and Wellness Coaching, conducted in August 2010, 161 healthcare organizations reported on current and future coaching initiatives. According to survey respondents, incentives are offered for the following program milestones:

  • Enrollment: 59.5 percent

  • Program completion: 56.8 percent

  • Ongoing participation: 48.6 percent

  • Goal achievement: 32.4 percent

  • Other: 8.1 percent
