ROI Achieved by the ACO This Week's Challenge: As the number of public and private accountable care organizations nears 500, participants are fine-tuning the ACO model, which has shifted in recent years from hospital-led to physician-only leadership to PHO-helmed ACOs. We wanted to see what ROI was achieved by the ACO.

What We Learned: HIN's third annual industry survey on ACOs captured how 138 healthcare organizations are participating in ACOs, including which populations participate in the ACO, the biggest challenge of ACO creation, the greatest successes achieved by the ACO, and much more. According to survey respondents, the following ROI was achieved by their ACO:

  • Too early to tell: 53.8 percent

  • Don't know: 38.5 percent

  • Between 3:1 and 4:1: 3.8 percent

  • Less than 2:1: 3.8 percent

  • Higher than 4:1: 0 percent

  • Between 2:1 and 3:1: 0 percent
