3.) Consumer-Driven Health Plans: Successful Implementations Methodologies Based on the Strategies of Early Adopters

When a health plan transitions to CDHP from a traditional managed care delivery model, staff, management and operational disciplines across the enterprise must respond rapidly to marketplace demands and provide superior consumer service from the outset. The truly focused health plan gains an advantage by quickly capitalizing on its CDHP initiative to achieve strategic marketplace goals. When the entire organization endorses the initiative and collaborates effectively, the health plan can address all affected downstream processes and maximize benefits.

4.) New Survey: CDHP Growth Levels Off Among Employers; Plan Sponsors Embrace Generics

Predictions that consumer-directed health plans (CDHPs) such as health savings accounts (HSAs) would continue their steep growth appear to be overstated, according to a national survey of health plan sponsors by Medco Health Solutions Inc.’s Systemed Group.

The plan sponsors cover between 1,000 and 15,000 lives and the survey shows that most employers and health plan sponsors of this size are not considering offering CDHPs as a benefit option in the next few years.

5.) 2007 HSA Compliance Guide: A Primer on the Most Critical Treasury, IRS and DOL Guidance Issued Over the Past Two Years

Since the birth of health savings accounts (HSAs) in 2004, the Treasury Dept., Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Dept. of Labor have released a steady stream of rules that define the accounts and explain how they are to be used. 2007 HSA Compliance Guide: A Primer on the Most Critical Treasury, IRS and DOL Guidance Issued Over the Past Two Years offers an easy-to-understand interpretation of seven rounds of guidance issued between early 2005 and early 2007.

You’ll read in-depth analysis — plus the actual government guidance(s) — on the rules that clarify how HSAs are to be treated. Specifically, these rules define how and when funds from health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and individual retirement accounts (IRAs) can be transferred to an HSA. They also explain when debit cards can be used to access HSA dollars, and how employers that offer HSA contributions can sidestep problems related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).
