Sponsored by: CMS' Voluntary Physician Reporting Program: Preparing for the Feedback and 2007 Updates

Physicians who report on quality measures will be eligible for a 1.5 percent incentive payment beginning in July 2007, as a result of legislation just enacted by Congress, this fulfilling industry experts' predictions that CMS' physician voluntary reporting program (PVRP) would shortly be tied to physician reimbursement. Physicians already sharing this data with CMS began receiving feedback on their results this month. To help physicians weigh the benefits of participation, industry thought leaders will examine the expected impact of these incentives, share lessons learned on participating in the PVRP, suggest how to incorporate PVRP results into an overall quality improvement program and look at what else 2007 will bring for PVRP during "CMS' Voluntary Physician Reporting Program: Preparing for the Feedback and 2007 Updates," a January 9, 2007 audio conference.

3.) Constructing a Medical Home: Foundation in Education Needed

From a policy standpoint, the healthcare industry appears to be pinning its hopes on the establishment of medical homes for all to transform the quality and availability of care and dramatically reduce healthcare costs. However, the results of the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN) November 2006 online survey indicate that a great many opportunities still exist to educate various industry sectors about this practice.

4.) NIOSH Evaluates Workplace Violence

Some 5 percent of the 7.1 million private industry business establishments in the U.S. reported an incident of workplace violence within the 12 months prior to completing a new survey on workplace violence prevention, according to a recent study for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Employers were surveyed by BLS regarding policies and training on workplace violence prevention. In the past, not much information existed that assessed the policies, training and other related issues from the employer perspective, BLS said. Most workplace violence studies were conducted from the employee’s or victim’s viewpoint.
