3.) Healthcare Spending Hits $1.9 Trillion In 2004 With Slower Growth Rate

Healthcare spending hit $1.9 trillion in 2004, or $6,280 per person, according to a report released this month by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The agency was quick to note that while there was an increase in spending, the growth rate actually slowed for the second straight year in 2004, the most recent year for which actual numbers are available. A report on projected spending will be published in coming months.
