White Paper Abstract: An insurance company issues a payment check to each healthcare provider, for the dozens, if not hundreds, of claims received from the provider. A remittance, also known as an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), is included along with the payment to explain which services and procedures are being covered. EOBs detail each procedure and how much is being paid per procedure for every patient. Some insurance companies are handling this electronically, but there is a large majority that still sends paperbased EOBs.
