The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) paved the way by advocating a medical home for every child, especially those with special healthcare needs, starting in the 1960s. From a policy standpoint, the healthcare industry appears to be pinning its hopes on medical homes to transform the quality and availability of care and dramatically reduce healthcare costs.
