The majority of healthcare organizations are not yet prepared for the HIPAA regulations. A survey conducted by Medical Records Briefing, available electronically through the Healthcare Intelligence Network, found that only 7% of hospitals surveyed by MRB are well-prepared for the administrative simplification requirements that will go into effect in 2002. Slightly more than half (55%) consider themselves "somewhat prepared" and 37% say they are not prepared at all.
