New Chart: 5 Top Tools for Obesity & Weight Management

SUMMARY: Obesity and weight management programs from healthcare payors, purchasers, providers and educators can help to reduce the physical and financial strain of overweight and obesity on health status, worker productivity and healthcare costs in the midst of the nation's full-fledged obesity epidemic. The August 2008 Obesity Management e-survey by the Healthcare Intelligence Network analyzed responses from more than 300 healthcare organizations who identified the top approaches to obesity and weight management from varied industry sectors as well as a look at the latest obesity-related studies. According to respondents, the top five elements that are part of their organization's obesity initiatives are:

  • Weight management (87.1 percent);
  • Nutrition counseling (80.6 percent);
  • Self-management training (74.2 percent);
  • Telephonic coaching (58.1 percent); and
  • Prevention (48.4 percent).
